APPLY A BIT OF LIGHTWEIGHT EYE CREAM underneath the eyes; avoid the eyelids if you plan on wearing eye makeup. The cream should absorb quickly and leave your skin feeling smooth but not wet.
I use Kiehl’s creamy eye treatment with avocado £26. The eye cream is extremely creamy with a slight green hue (courtesy of the avocados). All it takes is a small dab on my finger and the cream generously coats the surface under my eyes. I use the eye cream day and night, and I find myself looking forward to applying the cream as you can see the results more or less straight away. My under eyes look extremely hydrated and more plump. I also notice my concealer looks much more smoother and natural under my eyes and doesn’t look creasy and cakey, which I was finding before I found this cream. I didn’t realise how important eye cream was!
NEXT, NEUTRALISE DISCOLOURATION and darkness with corrector. Apply with a brush and go up to the lashline to get rid of redness, as well as the inner corner of the eye to lighten the dark, recessed areas. Gently pat with your finger—don’t wipe or over-blend.
If you have trouble with darkness peaking through your concealer than this product will be your answer. The Giorgio Armani Master Corrector in shade 1 £26 banishes dark circles for a flawless finish. You only need a teeny tiny amount where you have darkness, and pat in lightly with your finger.
LAYER CONCEALER DIRECTLY OVER the corrector to lighten darkness and create a seamless transition between the under eye area and the rest of the face. Gently blend with your fingers in a soft, patting motion or with a beauty sponge.
My top 3 concealers are:
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer £22: Shape Tape is a perfect concealer. It’s very full coverage yet the formula is lightweight. You can cover blemishes easily and blend out the concealer seamlessly and with no dryness or flaking on the skin. They really nailed this formula and it truly is hydrating for providing such an opaque coverage. I’m someone who needs a crap ton of coverage from my concealer, and Shape Tape gives me just that. Plus, without the downsides of a full coverage concealer.
Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define concealer £4: Available in 18 shades, this concealer has a lightweight velvety feel but surprisingly a very full coverage. The finish is seamless and matte, with great full coverage.
Urban Decay Naked Concealer £19.50: A lighter consistency than the other two concealers, which I prefer for a more natural makeup day. However this concealer still covers everything you need without it looking heavy on the skin. You can definitely create a medium to full coverage finish. The only downside to this concealer is the limited shade range.
LOCK CONCEALER IN PLACE and keep from creasing by lightly dusting face powder under the eyes, or if you are extremely oily, baking under the eyes will make sure everything stays in place. Leave the powder on for a few minutes before sweeping away with a large fluffy brush.
I could not live without my Laura Mercier Translucent Powder £29. The powder is very smooth and silky. It is not as finely milled as most other setting powders, but it still performs equally well if not better. It blurs out lines and fills in pores leaving a flawless finish to the under eye area. You can also use it to set the rest of your face, It sets makeup without looking too powdery or feeling chalky. I would recommend going in with a light hand if your super dry.
