Tarte Shape Tape Vs Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define

I’m afraid to say I’ve never really noticed the brand Makeup Revolution. My research shows the brand constantly offers affordable versions of premium products, and by affordable I mean affordable! So when I heard they have supposedly made a dupe for Tarte Shape Tapes concealer (which is not easy to grab in the UK) I immediately knew I had to have it. For those of you who have been in hiding for the last year, the Tarte Shape Tape concealer is the number one best-selling concealer in the US which every beauty guru on YouTube raves about and will cost you £22, compared to the Makeup Revolution conceal & define concealer which is a steal at £4. Below is a full description of the two concealers.

Tarte Shape Tape

Tarte’s official name for this concealer is the “Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer”, which gives us a good hint as to how Tarte intended this product to be used. Double Duty means you can use this product as both a concealer and a contour/highlight. It’s available in 14 shades, and the lightest shade is very light and perfect for highlighting pale to light skin.

Shape Tape provides a flawless matte finish that won’t flake or crease, even if you have dry skin, fine lines, or pore problems – no setting powder necessary. Mango seed & shea butters naturally regenerate & illuminate all complexions, letting you play with light to lift your features.

Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define

The concealer for everyone, 18 shades ranging from fair to deep, in cool, neutral and warm undertones. Lightweight yet full coverage concealer to cover blemishes, even skin tone and counteract dark circles, with a matte finish that won’t setting or accentuate fine lines and pores. Long wearing intense pigment that can also be used to contour and add definition. Our large doe foot applicator allows for smooth application that won’t drag on the delicate skin under your eyes.

How to use

To conceal those dark circles under the eye pick a shade lighter than your skin tone to brighten up the area and to make you look fresh and awake. For blemishes use a shade which matches your skin tone or foundation, I also like to let the product sit on the skin for a few minutes before I blend it out which will gain more coverage for those pesky spots. You can also use concealer to contour, and I advise going two shades darker than your skin tone. Makeup Revolution has actually explained the undertones in each shade making it a hell of a lot easier to order online. Once you’ve picked your shades (and because of the price, you’ll probably be able to pick up a few!). The application is entirely your preference.

I either blend out my concealer with my damp beauty blender or a brush. A duo fibre brush is super quick and easy to use, it also doesn’t take away any of that coverage we need, I use a Mac 188 brush which I have recently falling back in love with.

The shades I picked up are C3, C4 & C8, which are for brightening under my eyes and covering blemishes. I need to pick up a contour shade too!

What I liked

I love this concealer so much! I wouldn’t say the concealer is a flat matte, I do notice a slight natural glow under my eyes until I set it with powder. The coverage is top class for a £4 concealer and it never looks cakey or drying under my eyes. I wear this concealer for 12 hours on week days and it always looks flawless.

Does it compare to Tarte Shape Tape?

I still love my Shape Tape and for me nothing compares to how it conceals blemishes. However for under the eyes I do prefer the Makeup Revolution concealer because I find it less drying and it doesn’t crease as much. However if Tarte Shape Tape suddenly discontinues I would happily use the Makeup Revolution without a seonnd thought.

I am shocked that a £4 concealer can give this amount of coverage and still blend like a dream with minimal creasing and fading. The shades that I picked up in the Makeup Revolution concealer are perfect for my skin tone and I can purchase more when I have a tan without blowing the Bank. I hardly ever buy high street concealers because of the lack of shade range, but the Makeup Revolution has catered for every skin tone and colour. I find the finish just perfect for my under eyes and I can’t honestly fault this concealer, it’s a must buy for everyone!
