Copper is the perfect autumnal colour. Whether you prefer a statement eye or you’re more of a bold-lip kind of person, you can incorporate copper colours into every aspect of your transitional makeup look. Everywhere I go I am always drawn to this rich, rusty colour, even my living room has turned into a rusty orange retreat. I find the colour very flattering and very versatile, there are so many varied tones available for every complexion.
Today I wanted to cobble together a post that served as an ode to autumn beauty because, yep you’ve guessed it – I’m SO here for it. A slightly more matte base, a rusty colour on the lid and a nude lip; it plays out every single year, but for good reason. The tones are universally flattering, plus the injection of tonal colours add some spice to the bland colour palette that I now plan on wearing until May. So I’ve had a makeup mix-up and I’m attempting to put to bed the nudes that I’ve worn. Every. Single. Day.
Now when I said ‘a slightly more matte base’ in the intro, you knew that I meant dialling it down from ‘looking like you could fry four eggs on my face’ to ‘looking like you could fry just the one’, yeah? I’m a fan of the glow and I can’t see me returning to the blotted side anytime soon, but there is something about the dusky days and early evenings, that have me attempting more of an etherial glow, rather than all-out grease, which is why I try to achieve for the rest of the year. Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation (I use the shade 6) does a great job of evening out everything with it’s medium coverage finish, whilst looking a little bit velvety on the skin without zapping all your complexion’s natural sheen. It’s a cult classic and rightly so.
It was time to dust off MAC Coppering, the ultimate Autumn rusty copper shade which will compliment any eye colour. Every time I wear this eye shadow I just love how my eyes look and people always ask what shadow I am wearing. It is super easy to apply and blends like a dream with no fall out. You can literally buff this all over the lid and you will be good to go. I also like mixing in a golden shade like Mac Amber lights, which is a gold-shimmered coppery brown which compliments Coppering beautifully. The finish is a veluxe pearl which leaves a beautiful sheen to the eyelid, which can be intensified with Mac Fix+. If you are an eyeshadow fan, then you would definitely want to have Coppering in your kit, it’s a really unique colour!
Sometimes the mess factor keeps me from playing with loose pigments. Maybe I’m just a clean freak, but I always find a way to get loose shadow in the sink, on my clothes, on the dog and in my hair. Even so, I regularly make exceptions for Mac Melon. Mac pigment in Melon is a loose pigment that comes in a little tiny jar which seems to never run out. Melon is golden-peach colour and it is very pigmented. The texture is super soft which creates a magical sheen to the eyes, with a little spritz of Mac Fix+ it really does gleam.
Nars Audacious lipstick in the shade Jane is an amazing yummy colour which I love wearing day or night. This colour is a slightly muted, medium-dark orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It is super rich, opaque colour coverage and applies so smoothly on the lips. The Audacious lipstick formula doesn’t dry out my lips and is super long wearing due to the fact it does dry slightly matte the longer you wear it. These lipsticks are one of the best formulas out there. The colour orange just makes me super happy, I cannot get enough.
Becca Mineral Blush in the shade Songbird is a dreamy blush that will compliment any look. It’s a muted-dark copper blush with hints of brown and soft, gold frosted shimmer. This super soft, creamy blush is one of my favourites as it super pigmented, however it blends itself into the skin, leaving a healthy luminous glow.
Marc Jacobs lip gloss is one of the best nude lip glosses that I have tried. “Pretty Thing” is a mid-tone pink nude shade with no shimmer or glitter. The formulation on Marc Jacobs gloss is absolutely gorgeous. It is non sticky, not thick, and offers great pigmentation for a gloss. The applicator distributes the right amount of product on the lips. The gloss offers a wet, mirror-like finish on the lips, which looks absolutely stunning. The gloss has a minty scent which feels very refreshing on the lips. “Pretty Thing” feels very hydrating and comfortable on the lips. This gloss makes lips look plump and juicy. Since it is so pigmented, it can be worn alone or can be topped over a lipstick to add a dimension to the product underneath.
