There is nothing worse then your face melting half way through the day! My working day consists of a 12 hour day, I need products I can count on to make me look snatched all day. I even swear these below products to get me through a work day, straight into drinks after work. Now that’s a good 17 hours make up wear. Okay I admit I might need to powder my chin and forehead slightly but that’s it. I have combination skin, a slight oily t-zone but dry cheeks. If you are looking for those miracle products then please keep on reading.
Benefit porefessional is my go to primer for a long day. It is a translucent balm that you can apply under or over makeup. Benefit says when applying it under makeup, to apply to clean, lightly moisturized skin, then pat on problem areas and blend with fingertips. For over makeup, pat on lightly over makeup and blend. (Doesn’t sound so different, eh?)
Porefessional applies a soft focus lens over your skin, which gives it the appearance of a softer, smoother, and less-pore-filled. My pores are instantly minimised, which is the goal. It is similar to MAC’s Prep + Prime Line Filler as well as bears some resemblance to face primers in general. It has a silkier texture, though, and it helps to mattify the skin as well. The product works to give skin a little help by minimizing textural issues, which pores can sometimes contribute to. It works wonders for my slightly oily T-Zone, especially helping in keeping my foundation in tact on my chin where it tends to break up. I find foundation slides on so easily when I use this primer and sits beautifully on my skin.
The powder itself is very smooth and silky. It is not as finely milled as most other setting powders, but it still performs equally well if not better. It does a great job at setting makeup. I particularly love it to set my under eye concealer which I find fills out any fine lines and really sets my concealer in place. I also like to set my chin and forehead where I get the most oily, this powder guarantees to keep unwanted oils at bay. For the rest of my face, which is most often of the dry side, I find that this powder never emphasizes dry patches or fine lines or pores. It sets makeup without looking too powdery or feeling chalky. The trick to use it for dry skin is to use sparingly and use a brush, or my newest obsession, a damp sponge. The sponge really helps to blue out any imperfections.
It delivers a silky smooth matte finish. If you are the one who likes to go for dewy look, I would not advise to use this powder, as it takes away every bit of shine. This powder would be perfect for oily skin but even those with dry skin like me can use it without a problem, if you are one looking for a complete matte finish
has been a long-time favourite for me — it’s been my go-to setting powder since I first started using it.
I love it because it sets my makeup, keeps it in place throughout the day, and helps minimise oiliness. It never looks powdery, and it never looks obvious–it has a silky smooth texture as it is a finely milled loose powder that disappears on the skin.
This powder is a one-shade-fits-all: a snow white powder that is designed to work on all skintones.
The powder sets the makeup while leaving the skin looking like skin. If you have a foundation that is already making your skin look really good (i.e. dewiness, healthy/radiant glow), this powder won’t take away from it. The Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder doesn’t feel or look like it’s there and it doesn’t settle over any areas/dry patches on the skin. It evens out my skintone due to the blend of synthetic mica, silicone powders and silica, which helps my bronzer and blush to glide on beautifully. I find the powder blurs out any imperfections and makes my skin look flawless. However I would advise not to go too heavy handed with this powder, as it will cause a slight white cast when taking flash photography. Using a light hand will not cause that.
One of the pleasantly surprising ingredient in this powder is the hyaluronic acid. For those of you not familiar with hyaluronic acid, it is an incredibly popular skincare ingredient since it is known for its hydrating and anti-aging properties. In this particular case, the hyaluronic acid helps prevent that cake-y, dried-out look which can often be associated with face powder.
A great formula, and a product that truly delivers, it is worth every single penny spent. Featuring a mattifying formula, and a light, silky texture, this powder feels and looks invisible on the skin and doesn’t take away from the foundation or the “skin-like” qualities which I really value, also that flawless look.
Is makeup meltdown ruining your midnight mojo? Mist on this weightless spray to give your makeup serious staying power. All Nighter keeps your makeup looking gorgeously just-applied for up to 16 hours – without melting, cracking, fading or settling into fine lines. It delivers a smoother-looking skin and vibrant makeup that lasts all day (or all night). If you love to go hard core with bronzer and blush powders this spray also helps everything merge together, and appear less powdery.
All Nighter’s sleek, modern packaging hints at the high-tech formula inside. The white box features a gorgeous, sophisticated watercolor design in deep purple with coordinating type, and the soft-touch bottle has a color-coordinated cap. Unlike similar products on the market, the sprayer delivers a microfine mist that goes on so light, you’ll hardly feel it – and once you’ve applied it, you won’t even know it’s there. If you’ve tried other setting sprays that feel sticky or tight on your skin, you’ll be AMAZED by how different this is.
MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot is a neutral yellowish beige with a matte finish. If you need your shadow to stay in place all day and the colour to stay vibrant like when you applied it that morning the Mac Soft Ocre is a must. The creamy formula cancels out any redness and discolouration on the lid, which makes any eyeshadow colour you apply stay true to it’s real colour. It also looks amazing worn alone and set with a translucent powder. This really brightens the eyes to create a fresh, awake look. I also find my eyeshadows never crease or budge when I apply the Mac Soft Ocre as appose to applying straight to clean lids.
The quickest way I’ve found to apply it is by using warm, clean fingers instead of a brush. I pick up a little bit of it with a finger and apply with a patting, rather than a swiping, motion to my lids. The warmth from my hands seems to soften the product and make it easier to spread.
