A week in Ibiza

For all the blaring music and hedonism associated with Ibiza, the island is also a destination of culture and grace. Me and my friends had an amazing week discovering ibiza with it’s amazing beaches, pool parties and beautiful town.

Craig David’s pool party at ibiza Rocks

Somethings are just mandatory when you holiday in Ibiza and hitting up a pool party is definitely one of them. When I heard Craig David was taking over Ibiza Rocks hotel every Thursday I knew we had to go. In Craig David’s words he was drawn to Ibiza by the ‘incredible energy’ of the island. His pool parties are about bringing his mix of ‘RnB, Hip Hop and Garage flavour to balance out the incredible dance scene of the island and mingling his Miami/London vibes to create an unforgettable party in an unforgettable location. There’s no doubt about it, we were incredibly excited to see him.

We were so eager that we were one of the first to arrive at the hotel, so early the doors weren’t even open yet. One of Craig’s DJ friends was on the decks when we arrived playing some bangers, this got the crowed warmed up and we certainly enjoyed ourselves. Craig came on about a 6pm and played until 7.30pm. The music at the event was perfectly pitched to entertain everyone with new tunes mixing flawlessly with old school bangers designed to keep everybody dancing all afternoon.

Ibiza Rocks hotel quite simply is an awesome place for a party. Celebrating their 10th year on the Island now Ibiza Rocks sure knows what it’s doing and how to throw a party, for Craig David they went all out and the place was incredible. The hotel surrounds the pool and stage area and whilst this whilst those are staying in hotel rooms with balconies overlooking the pool area can watch the gig from their own rooms, everyone else is down on ground level where they’re free to watch the gig from in the pool or on the surrounding dance floor. Bars are dotted around the sides and they’re not badly priced (for Ibiza).

Ushuaia – Disturbing Ibiza with Tinie Tempah and DJ EZ

One of my favourite nights, I still smile and want to jump up and down when I think about this night, it was so much fun and the tunes were out of this world.

Ushuaia is one of Ibiza’s most iconic venues, where dazzling production and visuals are set against breath-taking views of the Mediterranean, Ushuaïa has well and truly earned its reputation for holding the biggest and best parties on the white isle. With a resident line up boasting only the very best artists from across the dance and pop music spectrum, Ushuaïa Ibiza has ensured that they have catered to everyone.

Tinie Tempah is at Ushuaia every Friday and DJ EZ joined him on this occasion. I must admit DJ EZ was the highlight of the night! He embalmed the scorched masses with his trademark tune-jumping, bandying about everything from classic Garage to contemporary Grime, like cellulite in a twerking bum-cheek. The energy shot through the air, across the aeroplanes passing overhead, into the stratosphere, and slammed back down with the arrival of the next stomper cued up in session. Every tune a banger, every banger a classic – and yes, ‘Pow!’turned up again.

Cala Seladeta

A well needed rest! We decided to recuperate with a trip to Cala Saladeta, a hidden beach next to it’s neighbouring bay of Cala Salada. To get to the beautiful beach of Cala Saladeta we had to take a mini adventure of clambering over a rocky divide, however the sweaty result Is well worth it, plus we came across a family of kittens which was a bonus. The beach is small and private with crystal clear waters perfect for a snorkel opportunity. This was just what we needed to re charge our batteries. Bliss.

Cafe Mambo

The iconic Cafe Mambo sits in the centre of what has become known as the sunset strip in San Antonio. Café Mambo has a stunning backdrop and is a well-known sunset spot with its beautiful set up and terrace overlooking the famous rocky area and Mediterranean sea. Cafe Mambo is Popular with tourists and locals alike and not only serves mouth-watering food, it has also been awarded the DJ award for best bar in Ibiza several times.

We reserved a table at the front row of the restaurant which guarantees first class views of Ibiza’s famous sunset, and wow it did not disappoint. Our hostess was very attentive and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived.  We soaked up the view while sipping on Sangria, and enjoying a beautiful meal. The food was fresh, delicious and I didn’t want it to end. Our meal ended with entertainment from a magician who really impressed us, and I think even the surrounding tables heard our excited fits of laughter and screams of pure amazement!

Exploring Ibiza town

Ibiza Town is a grand, cosmopolitan and ancient Mediterranean city located on the southeast coast of the island. There’s great shopping, nightlife, world-beating restaurants, a hugely varied selection of bars and cafes and beautiful historic buildings from the ancient old town, Dalt Vila with its Renaissance defensive wall, to the sublime boulevard of Vara de Rey. This cool city is also hotbed of culture and art with a mix of galleries and museums, plus there are all kinds of cultural events throughout the year. The name for Ibiza in Catalan is “Eivissa”, which you will see on signposts all over the island.

The city is divided into three distinct parts; old town, new town and the marina. We strolled the  lanes with cobbled streets with pretty white-painted houses and buildings, browsing in the little Spanish boutiques. Beautiful individual restaurants were everywhere you turned, set with colourful crockery and fresh flowers. After a delicious relaxing dinner we explored Dalt Vila a treasure trove of history and architecture followed by taking a peek at the majestic yachts moored in the harbour. Unfortunately we didn’t come across any celebrities.

Ocean beach Kisstory pool party

Ocean Beach certainly feels like an exclusive L.A. beach club, with bottles off bubbly that cost more than my mortgage bill, white clad waiters ferrying platters of sashimi to the poolside day beds, its easy to see why Ocean Beach is considered Ibiza’s playground for the rich and famous. However I was pleasantly surprised with how relaxed I felt and the various different people just wanting to get their dose of vintage old skool classics. Ocean beach is a club renowned for throwing some of the best daytime and nighttime poolside parties in San Antonio and Kisstory exceeded all expectations.

We made a reservations for a bed in the garden area which I highly recommend if you want space to dance the night away or chill on your own private bed sipping on your favourite drink, which was served by your very own waitress.

Kisstory at Ocean beach made a wonderful end to a fabulous holiday. If you like to dance and sing along to old school tunes then I highly recommend this day out.
